Metacognitive Experience

My Metacognitive experience throughout reading our novel, Flowers, has been one of a struggle. I have found many difficulties in getting to the stage of actively participating in the story line. It is indeed a great story, with interesting characters and it has a great story line. However, for one reason or another, I can't really get into the story. I find my mind wandering and racing when I sit down to read. It feels like every oppertunity I have to relax and get into a reading mentality, every other thing is in order except for my mind. I can't quiet my mind to really dive deep into our reading. It just turns into reading five, ten, maybe twenty-five pages here and there compared to upwards of fifty to one-hundred pages when sit down with our book. But as I mentioned earlier I am still thoroughly enjoying our novel and getting to know Sonny better throughout the plot. I just wish I could get even more into it, where the book becomes a total page turner and I can't put it down. Those are certainly my favorite types of books.

  1. I understand your dilema, I myself have tried reading some books that are in Italian and I can't seem to get very far with them it's just frustrating. That's true even if its' just a sprinkle of another language it just takes you for a loop. That's the down side to this book if you can't understand the language you miss out on all the "good stuff" as they say.

  2. I am struggling with the same thing when trying to read this book. "I can't quiet my mind to really dive deep into our reading. It just turns into reading five, ten, maybe twenty-five pages here and there compared to upwards of fifty to one-hundred pages when sit down with our book." Everytime i go to read the words just go through my head and then out. I can't get into it enough to really enjoy reading it.

  3. I have to agree with both of you completely, and am so excited to know that there are other people in the same situation as I have unfortunately found myself in. It always makes life so much more reassuring when your'e not the only one who is going through something. You know what I mean? Even something as simple as not understanding a book, as in with this case, it always makes things seem not as bad when you know you're not the only one who is struggling with that particular something.
